Where Legend Meets Song

The legend of the "Bell Witch," America's most documented haunting, has woven a web of fear and intrigue around the world for over 200 years. This epic tale of terror on Tennessee's early frontier has been the subject of books, movies, and news stories the world over.

Nashville musician Pat Fitzhugh, who has researched the infamous legend for over 40 years and written books about it, has teamed with award-winning songwriter and folklore enthusiast Mike Richards to put the legend into song. Their collaboration comes full circle with virtuoso fiddle player Lydia Bain and award-winning vocalist Jimmy Williams.

lyrics

Lyrics:

If ya vist the Red River at night, ya better say a prayer;
There's haints in the fields and screechin' in the air.
It began long ago when the Bell family met an unseen force;
They called er' Ol' Kate, she caused a stir and with no remorse.

Knocks on the walls and rats on the floor, fear consumed the Bell home;
And despite their fervent prayer, Ol' Kate wouldn't leave em' alone.
Her antics were sinister, she drew skeptics from far and near;
But none could expose her, Even Andrew Jackson left in fear.

Old John Bell you better run,
Get out while you can.

You know she'll be comin'soon,
To end what she began.

It's clear you'll never walk away,
As darkness closes in.

So, let the game begin.

Ol' Kate got meaner with time, people tried banishin' her to no avail;
Her plan was to kill John Bell.
And in 1820, he breathed his last air;
Some say Ol' Kate left then, but many say she's still there.

Old John Bell you better run,
Get out while you can.

You know she'll be comin'soon,
To end what she began.

It's clear you'll never walk away,
As darkness closes in.

So, let the game begin.

(repeat chorus)
